I’m flabbergasted, only weeks ago Cameron was warning of the West’s dependance on energy from Russia, yet here we are being held to ransom by a privatised company over the threatened closure of Kellingley pit, asking for £20m.
The answer is blatantly simple – renationalise the pits (that is what’s left of them) and safeguard our energy supply.
Let’s put this in context, the government is spending £12bn a year in foreign aid or £33m a day, so for the sake of one day’s aid they could safeguard coal and equally as important miners’ jobs for 12 months.
Now Cameron, which is more important? Step up to the plate and be a man.
