In response to the letter last week, I would like to assure Judith Goodwin that we have worked tirelessly to protect frontline services, especially those used by the most vulnerable.
Since 2011 we have had to make cuts of £81m to our budget. A massive amount of this has been achieved by reorganising our services and reducing our workforce.
We have looked at staffing ratios, to ensure we are working as efficiently as possible. As a result, we have a ratio of 80 front line staff for every 20 back room members of staff. We continue to make sure that we use our resources in the best possible way so that we are working efficiently.
The harsh reality is that another £38m has to be taken off our budget next year, in addition to the £23m made during this financial year. It means we can no longer continue to protect all our front line services. Every service in the Council has to contribute to help us achieve this saving.
As a council we are continually striving to make the best of what is a very difficult position as we face unprecedented financial challenges due to government cuts.
