YOUNGSTER Zara McGuinness has been nominated for a special award after setting up her own charity to help struggling Five Towns’ residents.
The Featherstone eight-year-old, who battled back after being mauled by a dog in a horrific attack, has her fingers crossed to win the Young Achiever of the Year category at the Sue Ryder Yorkshire Women of Achievement Awards 2012.
Zara set up her charity, Zara’s Foundation, earlier this year to support families in the area who need help to pay their bills and buy clothes and children’s toys.
Her mum Jean McGuinness, 49, of Huntwick Crescent, said: “We are so proud of Zara for being nominated for this amazing award, it is a new category for young achievers this year and we think she deserves it more than ever for all the work she has put into building up the charity from scratch.”
The 26th annual awards ceremony – at the Royal Armouries in Leeds on May 25 – honours women who are role models and high achievers in the face of adversity.
