CAMPAIGNERS have organised a second public meeting to fight the proposed closure of Purston Post Office.
Featherstone’s Independent district councillors are calling on residents to object to Post Office Ltd axing the Pontefract Road outlet during seven weeks of public consultation.

Coun Kay Binnersley said the first meeting on August 14 had gathered support from Featherstone residents.

She said: “Now we are writing to all residents living near Purston Post Office to ask them to object to the closure.

“Our first meeting went well and we hope more people will join our fight to save a vital service at the next one.

“I urge everyone affected by the closure to write to Post Office Ltd.”

Ackworth’s Pontefract Road Post Office is also earmarked for the axe in the latest cull of branches nationwide.

The meeting takes place at The Junction pub, Ackworth Road, Featherstone, on Thursday August 28 at 7pm. For more details of post office closures visit www.postoffice.co.uk/networkchange.

Objections can be made by writing to National Consultation Team, Post Office Ltd, Freepost Consultation Team or calling 08457 22 33 44.

Public consultation ends on September 22.
