POLICE have ruled out any foul play in the death of a dad-of-four whose body was found down a well at Pontefract Castle.

Det Supt Steve Payne, of West Yorkshire Police's homicide and major inquiry team, told an inquest at Wakefield Coroner's Court yesterday he was satisfied Ian Clark had not been attacked before he fell down the 60ft well.

A police investigation was launched after the 41-year-old's body was found by a security guard at the 900-year-old castle on October 30 last year.

The officer said the death is no longer being treated as suspicious.

The inquest heard a post mortem examination revealed Mr Clark had died from multiple injuries.

Toxicology tests showed he had drunk a some alcohol on the night of his death, but less than the legal driving limit.
