Firm fined after factory death

A PONTEFRACT firm was fined £50,000 after a worker was crushed to death by a 700kg roll of steel wire.
Infast Philidas (Pontefract) Ltd was also ordered to pay £6,000 costs at Leeds Crown Court on Friday when it pleaded guilty to a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act by failing to ensure the health, safety and welfare of its employees after the death of 58-year-old Brian Wilson.


Mr Wilson, of Sides Road, Pontefract, suffered fatal abdominal injuries at the company's Monkhill Lane factory when a 700kg roll of wire slipped from a forklift truck and landed on his stomach on January 4 2005.
