POLICE officers formed a guard of honour in touching tribute to Pontefract colleague Andrew Henderson, who died aged 43 after a battle with cancer.
Dad-of-two PC Henderson – who worked across the Five Towns during his 22 years with West Yorkshire Police – died on Saturday April 12.
Dozens of mourners watched fellow bobbies make the guard of honour at a packed funeral service in the town’s St Giles’ Church on Tuesday.
Ch Supt Marc Callaghan, divisional commander of Wakefield district police, said: “Andy dedicated his entire career to serving communities in Castleford, Knottingley and Pontefract.
“He was well known and respected by many people.
“He was very popular with colleagues who will greatly miss his enthusiasm and his desire to serve the public of West Yorkshire.”
PC Henderson, of Carleton, Pontefract, was a tenancy support officer with the force’s neighbourhood policing teams.
He leaves wife Joanne and two daughters, Alice and Jenny.
