HOSPICE bosses making a last minute plea for local people to sign up for the care centre's first major fundraising event of the year.
The Prince of Wales Hospice memory walk takes place on Sunday morning and will cover a 10k route around Ackworth and Badsworth.
Registration will be open at the Beverley Arms in Ackworth from 9.30am and the walk will start at 10.30am. Entry costs £7 for adults and £4.50 for under 14s.
Bill Douglas from event sponsors Oakworth Consultancy wants people who would normally be out walking their dogs on Sunday morning to consider taking part.
He said: “Our dog Jack is geared up for the big day. It’s an excellent route for taking your dog on a nice long walk, as well as it being a great opportunity to support your local hospice at the same time.”
Walkers will also have the chance to release a balloon sending a message to a loved one before the start and there will be a warm up organised by instructors from Pontefract’s Fitness First gym.
Television presenter Christine Talbot will be there to encourage walkers are they set out on the route and Rogerthorpe Manor Hotel in Badsworth will be a half way refreshment point. For more information contact the hospice fundraising department on 01977 781477, download an application form from www.pwh.org.uk, or register on the day.
