YOUNG radio enthusiast Laura Pearson has won first prize in a national competition.
The ten-year-old, of Badsworth, won a hand-held transceiver and a full kit of accessories after impressing judges with her knowledge in a competition run by the Radio Society of Great Britain’s (RSGB) journal RadCom.

Laura, a member of Pontefract and District Amateur Radio Society, has been a member of the national society since she passed her foundation radio licence in May.

Presenting Laura with her prize, Harold Scrivens, regional manager of the RSGB, said: “We need more youngsters like Laura to come into our hobby with such enthusiasm and energy.”

The Badsworth Junior and Infant School pupil is the youngest member of the Pontefract club and attends with her friend and classmate Catreena Ferguson, 11.

The pair will begin studying for their intermediate amateur licence in a fortnight.
