PROUD parents Jessica and Stephen Smith have raised cash for a hospital unit that saved their baby's life.
The couple, of Lake View, Pontefract, organised a dance night with a raffle and raised £1,050 for Pontefract General Infirmary's special care baby unit.

Staff at the unit helped save their baby Elliot's life when he was born after an emergency Caesarean section at 37 weeks because doctors discovered the placenta had come away from the uterus.

Little Elliot had to be resuscitated for seven minutes after he was born and his parents, Jessica, 27, and Stephen, 35, wanted to give something back to the team as a thank you.

Mr Smith said: "In total we raised £1,050 after a last minute donation. Staff at the unit have said they will put the money to good use, including buying a new photo printer which they will use to let all new mothers see their babies after they come into the unit.

"This was just one item they mentioned. We're just glad that we could give something back to this amazing and dedicated team of nurses and doctors.

"Our thanks are forever with them."
