BUDDING photographers in Pontefract are being invited to take pictures of the town's best and worst features as part of a new competition.
Pontefract Civic Society is running the contest – for adults and children – to help improve awareness of the town and raise the profile of the work of civic societies.

Peter Cookson, from Pontefract Civic Society, said: “It is because the civic society is so committed to preserving and enhancing the town that it decided to invited school pupils, as well as adults, to enter this competition.

“It will give people a chance to look at the town, perhaps more closely and with more thought than they have done before, and take photographs of the part of the town that appeals to them most, or which they most dislike.”

Entries should be colour, no more than A4 size, and include a brief explanation along with the entrant’s name, address and school, if appropriate.

Entries should be sent to Pontefract Museum, Salter Row, by June 17. There will be prizes for the winners of both categories and the winners’ photographs, along with other entries, will be on show at the museum during Civic Societies’ Week from June 21-28.
