TWO teachers from NEW College who took part in a British Council-sponsored trip to Bangladesh donated £200 on behalf of students to a school in Dhaka.
Layla Barker and Briain Coughlan travelled to Bangladesh’s capital city Dhaka with ten other teachers from the Wakefield district to experience different teaching systems.

During the trip they chose Gazipur Technical School and College as recipients of the £200 donation.

Health and social care teacher Layla said: “The school gave us such a warm welcome and the children were very friendly and eager to learn.

“Unfortunately, during their presentation to us, their very old CD player kept stopping, hindering the children during their performances.

“We decided to buy a TV and DVD player for the school as not only does this allow them to listen to music for performances in future, but there is also the opportunity to use DVDs for future learning resources.”

The trip was organised and funded by the British Council in liaison with Wakefield Council.
