SOCCER-mad schoolgirl Libby O'Brien starred on Wembley Stadium's pitch with FA Cup underdogs Barnsley FC on Sunday.
The nine-year-old won a radio competition to step out with the squad as a mascot before they lost 1-0 to Cardiff City FC in the competition’s gripping semi-final.
Proud mum Sam O’Brien, of Lynwood Crescent, said: “It was an unbelievable day.
“We were collected by an FA Cup car which had Libby’s name on and all the way there the Barnsley coaches were pipping at us, she felt like a celebrity.
“Libby said she was nervous in the tunnel before running out, but then she realised that the players were much more nervous.”
Strugglers Barnsley stunned the soccer world by overcoming giants Liverpool and then Chelsea to win a place in the last rounds of the FA Cup.
Libby, a pupil at Pontefract’s Carleton Park Junior and Infant School, was chosen as the club’s mascot after entering a Real Radio FM competition to impersonate the excited commentator at Barnsley’s quarter-final victory over Chelsea.
Sam added: “She loves supporting Barnsley and was so excited to see them play.
“Libby’s impersonation of the commentator was almost word for word and she beat about 30 people to win the contest.
“It was sad that Barnsley lost but the fans’ spirits never faded and we were just thrilled to be at Wembley.”
