AWEN Guttenbeil will put personal feelings aside to help Castleford end the campaign on a high.
The veteran Kiwi (pictured) is retiring from the game following Saturday's clash with Bradford Bulls at the Jungle.
It promises to be a poignant day for the ex-New Zealand Test ace but he is determined not to get side-tracked by the emotion of the occasion as the Tigers look to finish the season with a flourish.
"For the team and the club it would be great to finish on a high," Guttenbeil said this week. "It won't be an easy task against a team who are playing to secure a home semi. But if we play like we did last time we'll give ourselves a good shot.
"We've spoken as a team about finishing well and it would be nice to get two wins in a row for the first time this year. And regardless of my retirement or other blokes in the team moving on, you've got to put the team first."
The 31-year-old has made 41 appearances for Cas over the past two seasons, with two of his eight tries coming in last year's promotion-clinching Grand Final victory over Widnes Vikings.
He previously spent 11 seasons in the NRL with New Zealand Warriors where he carved out a career as one of the game's most dependable and rugged performers.
Said Guttenbeil: "I've had a fantastic career and the two years here at Castleford have been great.
"I was entertaining the thought of playing on after the first couple of months this year but as the season progressed I looked into my life after footy a bit more and I think my body told me as much as anything that it was time to pack in. Once it got to the middle of the season and my body was telling me to have a rest, it made the decision a lot easier.
"Castleford have been really kind to me and I'd like to thank the people of Cas for making it such an easy step. I'm thankful for the opportunity to come over here, not only to play rugby but to experience the lifestyle.
"I haven't lost any passion for the game and I'll be involved in some shape or form back home. I can't say what that is yet but it's a new start for me, so that's exciting."
