TOWNVILLE surrendered their perfect start to the season at Wrenthorpe after an absorbing clash between the CYL Premier Division's top two.
Chasing 147, the reigning champions, who edged out Wrenthorpe to last year's crown, were sent back for just 118.
Only opener Tim Walton (21) and Salman Fazal-Khan (26) got to grips with a home attack inspired by Neil Gill (5-56) and Dinusha Fernando, who claimed 3-26 from 11.3 overs, five of which were maidens.
Fernando and Gill claimed the wickets as David Paynter (1-18 from 14 overs) kept it tight.
Paynter top-scored with 29 of Wrenthorpe's 146-9 total, with Jon Kirk chipping in 25 down the order.
Fazal-Khan (4-55) and John Rickers (3-41) got in the wickets but the hosts' attack also found conditions to their liking.
Heavy rain washed-out Sunday's first round Heavy Woollen Cup clash at Wakefield St Michael's but the Castleford outfit won a bowl-out 2-1 to reach round two on May 18, when they will entertain Pontefract Leaguers Ackworth.
