Featherstone Colliery ...4
Stanley United ...0
FEATHERSTONE can still finish second in West Yorkshire League Division Two - providing they beat Swillington in their final game on Saturday.
That's the scenario after dumping Stanley in a rain-lashed fixture.
Coping better with the conditions, Featherstone applied early pressure through the slick passing of Luke Dyas, Scott Ellam, Rich Walker and Danny Glassell.
Dyas crossed for Gareth
Ward to open the scoring on 15 minutes and Stanley's attempts to hit back floundered against Luke Walker, Chris Appleyard, James Bradley, Ash Ellam and keeper Ryan Tolley.
Substitute Sam Harrison, on for the injured Dyas, crossed for Simon Davis, who volleyed just wide.
Veteran Tony Lyman replaced Davis at the break but there was no let-up and the striker wasted a couple of chances before hitting the goal of the game on the hour, a peach of a curler into the top corner.
Man of the match Ward timed his run to perfection to make it 3-0, then completed his hat-trick ten minutes from time as Colliery kept their promotion hopes alive.
Featherstone Colliery won 4-1 at Brighouse Old Boys in a midweek game. Featherstone's scorers included Davis who glanced home a Sam Harrison cross.
Man of the match was Harrison closely followed by Gareth Catton, Walker and Davis.

Sandy Lane ....0
Kellingley Welfare ...2
Despite lacking several regulars, Kellingley ended their Division Two campaign on a high.
They had far too much skill for bottom side Sandy Lane, who were chasing shadows from the off. The breakthrough came on 19 minutes when Celvin Waites, freed by Matthew Stones, beat two men to find the bottom corner from a tight angle.
The same player made it 2-0 just before the half-hour, driving home from just inside the box after neat play from Andy Mills. Stones saw an overhead kick just clear the woodwork.
Welfare were camped in Lane territory for long spells of the second half. Josh Barratt was unlucky to see a strike fly just wide and only some last-ditch defending denied Waites a hat-trick.
At the other end Danny Clough did well to save on the couple of occasions the home side broke Kells' resolute back-line.
With Rich Clough working tirelessly in midfield, Welfare had enough in reserve to give veteran Phil Sutton 15 minutes of game time.
Despite lacking composure in front of goal, this was a good team effort from the visitors, who are up to eighth in the ladder. Having the league's third best defence highlights, however, the side's failing this term - a lack of a finish.
