CASTLEFORD'S England centre, Michael Shenton, is putting club before country when it comes to priorities for the next few months.
The 23-year-old Pontefract-born star (pictured) would dearly love another crack at the Aussies after being literally knocked out by them in the Four Nations grand final at Elland Road, but knows it will be only be through playing well week in, week out for the Tigers that he will get that international chance again.
He said: "It's nice to be recognised to play for England, but my goal is to play well for Castleford first and do my best for them.
"It's my aim to keep on improving and work on things that I could do better and I would love to be part of a successful team that reaches the play-offs again.
"Hopefully we'll get a bit more consistency this year. We started last season well and didn't quite keep it up at times.
"We have got to get more home wins and play our best in front of our own fans, who were great last year although we didn't win enough matches at The Jungle.
"We need to get the job done even when we get injuries and get results when the pressure's on. If we do that there's no reason why we can't finish in the top eight again.
"It's our long term goal to get into the play-offs, but it's important we start the season well.
"We've got another trial coming up against Huddersfield next week and that will be important. It'll be good to have Brent Sherwin and Rangi Chase back at half-back and we can work on the sets we have been doing in training.
Rejuvenated
"Training has been going well. From my point of view it was nice to have a month off after the England games and return to training rejuvenated.
"I saw straight away that the intensity was really good and the two new guys have added to it."
Shenton believes last week's trip to France could hold the key to a successful campaign.
While training for the new season had gone well in the first two months, the Tigers were able to really step it up a notch in Perpignan and make sure they are on track for the mighty opening game against Leeds Rhinos at Headingley.
He added: "The trip to France should be good for us. It didn't start too well when we were stuck at the airport for a while then Terry's injury, but the facilities over there were brilliant.
"The guys really looked after us well and we were able to get some quality training in. Terry was really smart setting it up.
"Without the training we would have been really struggling because since Christmas we haven't been able to do anything outdoors.
"What we were able to achieve in three days over there was more than a week's training back home and it's got to help when the season starts.
"It's a tough start for us, but all of Super League is tough. Crusaders nearly turned us over twice last year so there are no easy games."
