RAY Gowan has quit Glasshoughton Welfare after 18 months at Leeds Road.
Committee member Frank Maclachlan has replaced Mr Gowan as general secretary with immediate effect, a statement from the club said this week. Mr Gowan's role as director of football at the NCE League's First Division strugglers is expected to be scrapped.
Mr Gowan has left to return to his native North East to manage Northern League outfit West Auckland Town.
"Although the appointment has been made quickly, Ray has left Glasshoughton with no animosity," the Glasshoughton statement said. "Indeed, the club are truly grateful at the way he has turned things round off the field during his time at Leeds Road."
Mr Gowan, who took charge of West Auckland following their 5-0 defeat on Saturday, said: "I will continue to help them (Glasshoughton) all I can but the West Auckland opportunity was too good to pass up."
