Castleford Lock Lane .. 12
Crosfields ..28
LANE'S recent revival ended when they slumped to a disappointing home defeat against Warrington side Crosfields who climbed above them in National Conference League Division Two.
Things started well for the home side when half backs Kyle Stanley and Adam Myers linked to put in full-back Mikey Tomlinson for a seventh minute try.
The Castleford side could have increased their lead four minutes later but a Joe Groves effort was ruled out for obstruction.
Crosfields levelled with a converted try after 29 minutes and edged ahead with a penalty goal two minutes before half-time.
Lane replied from the kick off when a spilled ball gave them an attacking scrum and Myers kicked straight from the scrum heel for winger Andy Mathews to score a try that Wayne Hardy converted to put the home side 12-8 up at the interval.
Crosfields took control in the second-half.
They squared matters with a 45th minute score and then added unconverted tries on 53 and 60 minutes to lead 20-12.
Lane were giving away far too many penalties to get a foothold in the game but they should have narrowed the gap after 68 minutes when prop Mick Gibbins went over from close range.
Although the referee had a perfect view, he consulted a linesman who was 30 yards away before disallowing the try.
That proved to be Lane's last chance and their fate was sealed when Crosfields scored two late tries.
Captain Chris Stockton, Gibbins and second rower Chris Tudor were Lane's best.
Lane have a tough trip on Saturday to resurgent Oldham outfit Waterhead.
