Larks Hill's athletes are top of the class

LARKS Hill Junior School (Pontefract) were the overall winners of Ackworth and District Inter Schools Track and Field Championships at Thornes Park Stadium, Wakefield.
The competition was organised for the fifth successive year running by Ackworth Road Runners and Athletics Club with help from the Five Towns School Sports Partnership.
Junction 32 Outlet Shopping Village sponsored the event for the fifth time.

toria Mitchell, the centre manager at Junction 32, presented the overall winners shield to Larks Hill School as well as presenting the awards to all the individual winners.
The results were:
1 Larks Hill 98 points, 2 St Joseph's (Pontefract) 67, 3 Halfpenny Lane (Pontefract) 62, 4 Ackworth Howard 58, 5 Ackworth Bell Lane 56.
In the first final of the day, Beth Schofield won a closely contested 75 metres for under 11 girls in 11.6 seconds. Rosie Lumb of Ackworth Howard recorded the same time in second place and Lucy Amery from Ackworth Howard was third in 11.7 seconds.
In the under 11 boys 75 metres, Joseph Threlfall of Larks Hill was a convincing winner in 11.3 with Oliver Burton (St Joseph's) just snatching second place from Jed Wilkinson (Ackworth Howard), both of them recording 11.6.
Briony Hassall from Bell Lane crossed the line first in the under 12 girls 80 metres in 12.5 seconds. Sarah Hewitt (Larks Hill) finished second in 12.6 with Baleigh Hood (Halfpenny Lane) third also in 12.6.
Adam Jones from St Joseph's, who won the under 11 boys 75 metres race last year, was first again in this year's 80 metres for under 12 boys. Adam clocked 11.3 seconds to just hold off Robert Thomas (Halfpenny Lane), who was second in 11.4 and Rhys Lacey (Larks Hill), who came third also in 11.4.
Beth Schofield from Larks Hill recorded her second victory of the day when she won the under 11 girls long jump, setting a very impressive championship record of 3.33 metres. Lucy Amery (Ackworth Howard) cleared 3.09 metres to take second place with Rebecca Lambert (St Joseph's) third with 2.58 metres.
In the under 11 boys long jump, Jed Wilkinson from Ackworth Howard came first with 3.25 metres. Tyron Morgan (Bell Lane) finished second with 3.07 and Rowan Gilday (Larks Hill) took third place with 2.85.
Lois Whitaker from Larks Hill cleared 3.25 metres to win the under 12 girls long jump. Katie Arkle (Bell Lane) jumped 3.02 for second place and Elise Waddington (Halfpenny Lane) came third with 2.98.
Patrick Hoyle (St Joseph's), winner of the under 11 boys long jump last year, was successful again in this year's under 12 boys long jump. His winning mark of 3.42 metres was exactly the same as last year. James Hackney from Larks Hill finished second with 2.81 and Andrew Geary (Bell Lane) was third with 2.51.
Lauren Hunter (St Joseph's) won the under 11 girls shot putt with 4.28 metres with Emma Lowe from Larks Hill taking second place with 3.96. Rosie Lumb (Ackworth Howard) recorded 3.93 for third place.
In the under 11 boys shot putt, Lewis Downs from Bell Lane took first place with 5.41 metres. David Garner from Larks Hill was second with 5.12 and Bradley Frier (St Joseph's) was third with 4.93.
In a closely contested under 12 girls shot putt, with all five girls throwing in excess of five metres, Jessica Vause (Larks Hill) took first place with 5.74 metres. Baleigh Hood (Halfpenny Lane) came second with 5.61 and Danielle Brown (St Joseph's) finished third with 5.51.
Ryan Holland from Halfpenny Lane won the under 12 boys shot putt with 5.78 metres with Edward Mountain (Ackworth Howard) taking second place with a throw of 5.56 metres. Rory Dixon (St Joseph's) came third with 5.35.
The 4 x 100 metres relays provided plenty of excitement with Larks Hill winning the under 11 girls event in a new championship record time of 68.2 seconds. St Joseph's finished second in 70.4 seconds and Halfpenny Lane came third in 73.0.
In the under 11 boys 4 x 100 metres relay, Halfpenny Lane were first over the line in 68.7 seconds. St Joseph's were second in 69.2 with Larks Hill third also in 69.2.
Larks Hill won the under 12 girls 4 x 100 metres relay in 67.6 seconds with Ackworth Howard taking second place in 68.5. Halfpenny Lane took third place with 69.2.
Larks Hill made it three relay victories out of four when they stormed home well clear in the under 12 boys race in 63.0 seconds. Halfpenny Lane were second in 64.9 with St Joseph's third in 66.0.
