Methley bounce back
METHLEY tasted the highs and lows of Central Yorkshire League cricket at the weekend.
On Saturday they slipped off the pace in the Premier Division championship race with a humbling 155-run defeat at leaders Wrenthorpe.
But they put that disappointment behind them the following day as John Proud and Vic Craven guided the side into the Jack Hampshire Cup semi-finals with a six-run win at fellow title hopefuls Birstall.
Opener Proud cracked 57 and Ryan Bradshaw made an unbeaten 38 as Methley posted 149-5 in a quarter-final reduced to 27 overs per side due to rain.
The target proved just beyond Birstall, whose reply closed on 143-9. Craven grabbed 4-55 from six expensive overs while Leaf, Chris Kippax and Mick Waite did just enough to shackle the visitors with wicket-taking spells.

John Inglis, who spent last season at Methley, top-scored with 42 in Saturday's heavy CYL defeat.
David Paynter hit 40 as Wrenthorpe scored a challenging 210-8 from 50 overs.
But Methley crashed to their first league defeat of the season after being knocked over for a paltry 55. Only Craven, Ryan Bradshaw and young Jack Bridges made it into double figures as Dinusha Fernando (5-28) and Neil Gill (5-27) ripped through the order.
It leaves Methley nine points behind the leaders and six adrift of second-place Birstall.
