METHLEY look resigned to finishing third at best in the Central Yorkshire League's Premier Division.
They beat lowly Northowram Fields by 29 runs on Saturday but a four-point haul has seem them slip further behind leaders Wrenthorpe and second-place Birstall, who both notched maximums.
With two games remaining, Methley trail Wrenthorpe by ten points and are eight points adrift of Birstall.
Openers Ryan Bradshaw and John Proud put on 121 for the first wicket in Saturday's game. Bradshaw hit 52 and Proud top-scored with 69.
And with Richard Foster (41) and Vic Craven (29) also in the runs, Methley posted a challenging 241-7.
Relegation-threatened Northowram fell short but went down fighting, thanks to a gritty 79 from Faisal Butt. Opener Rob Larner made 52.
The reply was undone by Chris Leaf, who claimed 5-68 from 17 overs. Craven chipped in with 2-58 but the lowly visitors batted out the overs to secure a valuable point in their fight to avoid the drop - denying Methley two more in the process.
Methley end the campaign with a trip to Townville on Saturday and a visit from title favourites Wrenthorpe on the final day of the season.
