PONTEFRACT Squash Club's world tour players had contrasting fortunes over the weekend.
Vanessa Atkinson beat club-mate Lauren Siddall and Latasha Khan (America) to reach the last four of the Carol Weymuller 2008 tournament in New York.
Her semi-final opponent was American number one Natalie Grainger, who won a closely-fought match 12-10 in the fourth.
Grainger went on to win the title.
Saurav Ghosal, playing a Challenger tournament in Chennai, India, reached the final comfortably, where he surprisingly lost 12-10 in the fifth to a lower-ranked rival, Indian number two Ritwik Bhattacharya.
Ghosal now goes to Hong Kong for the Cathay Pacific Open where he enters the qualifying draw.
Neil Cordell, playing the Palasprint Open event in Palma, caused a major shock by defeating top seeded Italian Luca Mastrostefano 3-1 in the first round.
Cordell went on to reach the semi-finals, where he lost to the eventual winner Stuart Crawford, of Scotland.
James Willstrop is in Singapore and Malaysia this week, playing a series of exhibition matches and squash clinics before heading for Hong Kong, where he has always played well in the past.
He will be hoping his troublesome ankle holds up as he attempts to get his season back on track.
Pontefract's Yorkshire League Premier side, with three of the club's top four players unavailable, lost 3-2 to Chapel Allerton.
Lee Beachill and Adam Taylor won but both Sam Wileman and Alan Norrish were unable to seal victory after losing narrowly (3-2).
The club's third team, who are challenging for promotion, beat Rothwell 3-2. Kirsty McPhee, Edward McGuire and George Wileman provided the wins.
The seconds, who are also enjoying a successful campaign, easily beat Appleby Frodingham 5-0.
The club's National League team plays Chapel Allerton with a severaly-depleted line-up.
Of the usual participants, only Vanessa Atkinson is available.
Cordell, Taylor, 15-year-old James Earles and Sam Wileman, who are all aged under 20, make up the team.
World championship semi-finalist Jenny Duncalf and England international Alister Walker will head the challenge of Leeds-based Chapel Allerton.
