RITA Yates has became the first junior member of Ackworth Road Runners & Athletics Club to win a Yorkshire County Track and Field gold medal.
The talented youngster won the under-15 girls' high jump at the Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield, at the weekend.
Her winning jump of 1.5m added 15 centimetres to her personal best and set a club record in her age group.
Still only 12-years-old, Rita will again compete in the under-15 age group next year - making her performance even more outstanding.

If she continues to improve, it is possible by 2009 that she could challenge the championship-best high jump performance, which stands at 1.64m and is held by British international heptathlete Jessica Ennis.

It has emerged that Faye Banks, also of Ackworth Road Runners & AC, was the winner of the Yorkshire Marathon Championships, held within last month's Flora London Marathon. Faye clocked 3 hours and 33 seconds to finish 61st in the women's race in London.

Charlie Lines was also in excellent form in last weekend's Yorkshire championships in Sheffield. Lines collected the silver medal by finishing second in the senior men's 3,000m Steeplechase in 10 minutes 39.38 seconds.
Liam Holdsworth took the bronze medal in the under-17 men' high jump with a clearance of 1.6m. It enabled the Ackworth club to come away from the championships with three medals.

It is the first time that the club has ever produced any medallists in the Yorkshire championships, although they have have secured many podium places at West Yorkshire championships.
Joel Dibb just missed out on a medal when he finished fourth in the under-17 men's triple jump. HIs best jump of 11.57m added more than a metre to the club record and also set new records in the junior (under-20) and senior men's age groups

In the 100m event, despite being eliminated in his heat, Joel also set new club records with a time of 12.44 seconds.
At Wednesday's West Yorkshire Track and Field League meet in Wakefield, club records were also set by Joe Fort (11.6 seconds in the boys' under-13 80m), Joel Dibb (25.1 seconds in the 200m for under-17s), Liam Holdsworth (1.65m in the under-17 men's high jump) and Ross Blackburn (2:07.4 in junior men's 800m).
