FEATHERSTONE coach Daryl Powell was delighted with his side's performance in Sunday's 48-0 win at Whitehaven.
Rovers showed strugglers Whitehaven no mercy as they maintained their 100 per cent away record in the Co-operative Championship with a 10-try spree.
Powell (pictured) said: "It was an excellent result for us. Whitehaven have obviously got some problems at the moment but you play what's in front of you.
"Whitehaven worked hard to slow the game down to the speed they wanted to play it at and we had to work hard to get some tempo into our game.
"Defensively we were outstanding and with the ball in our hands we were superb in the first-half.
"We dropped off a little bit in the second-half but we still won the second period 18-0 so you've got to be happy with winning a game the way we did. It was a quality effort.
"It takes a lot of doing to nil a team at any level and I think it was as good as we've been defensively.
"Whitehaven got a couple of line breaks on us but we had recovered within one tackle. It just shows the fitness and the mindset of the players that we are not prepared to concede points easily."
The writing was on the wall for Whitehaven when Featherstone scored in their first set of six. Liam Finn's crossfield kick on the last tackle caught out Whitehaven's defence, with Zak Hardaker gathering the ball ahead of Loz Hamzet to crash over out wide.
With half-backs Finn and Kyle Briggs pulling the strings, Rovers continued to boss the game against a Whitehaven side who were often their own worst enemies with their indiscipline and poor ball control.
Featherstone went further ahead after 15 minutes when Finn dummied his way over for a try. Four minutes later, Hardaker grabbed his second try by hacking on Briggs' kick and judging the bounce right to score. It was now turning into a Sunday afternoon stroll for Rovers who made it 20-0 when skipper Stuart Dickens cantered over.
The first of Sam Smeaton's two tries was then followed by a clever effort from Briggs to put the visitors 30 points ahead at the break.
Whitehaven improved in the second-half. They completed more sets and gave away fewer penalties but Rovers were in no mood to relinquish their grip on the game.
Andy Kain showed his class with a delightful try in the 47th minute after defenders backed away from him, expecting a pass that never came.
Featherstone struck again in the 57th minute when Finn kicked superbly across the field for the onrushing Hardaker to gather the ball on the full. The young winger found Smeaton in suppport and he moved the ball onto Kain who unselfishly sent in Tony Tonks for his first try this season.
Whitehaven then enjoyed their best spell of the game.
However, they were still unable to find a way through Featherstone's rock-solid defence. They finished a well beaten team as Rovers completed the rout with late tries from Ian Hardman and Smeaton.
