DAVID Hobbs (pictured) has welcomed the break in the Co-operative National League One programme.
Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth round ties take precedence this weekend, leaving Featherstone, who lost at home to Catalans in round four, without a fixture.
Rovers coach Hobbs believes his side will benefit from a free weekend ahead of a tough run of league and cup fixtures.
Featherstone, edged out 28-18 at Celtic last Friday, visit Leigh a week on Sunday and entertain Salford in a Northern Rail Cup semi-final the following Thursday before NL1 games at home to Widnes and away to Whitehaven.
"I think a week off at this stage of the season has come at the right time for us," said Hobbs. "We have one or two players carrying knocks and a break should put us in good shape to do a job on Leigh away, which is difficult but winnable.
"We only managed to get one physical session into them before the game at Celtic on Friday. Some of the guys didn't have a lot of game-time and hadn't trained for four or five days.
"A fortnight off gives us time to get some conditioning into the players. We've not really been able to do that with the games we've had."
Hobbs was encouraged by Rovers' battling display in defeat in Bridgend.
They led 14-8 until conceding tries either side of the break and though a Gavin Swinson touchdown hauled them level at 18-18, full-timers Celtic finished the stronger.
"They had the edge in the second half, "admitted Hobbs. "They scored a try on the hooter which underlined the fact you have to play whistle to whistle. We were still in front but they picked up the pace in the second half.
"At 18-18 it was anybody's game but we came up with mistakes and never recovered from them. We were competitive and we're not far away as a side but we need to turn these close games into wins.
"But a big effort went in and the guys conducted themselves well over the weekend. And individually there were some stand-out performances. I'm not going to put them through the mill at training, we need to do what's right to keep improving as a side.
"Friday showed we've come a long way since the start of the season when we were only competing for half an hour or half a game. Against Celtic we were switched on for the full eighty.
"We're in sixth place after round six and if we end up sixth at the end of the season it will be mission accomplished. We're on track and while an extra one or two wins would have been nice, after Leigh and Widnes we start taking on some of the teams around us again. It's a case of getting through the next couple of games and seeing where we go from there."
Meanwhile, long-term injury victim Nathan Batty is set to make his long-awaited return in this evening's Senior Academy clash against York Knights U 21s at the Chris Moyles Stadium.
The former Dewsbury full-back has not played for almost two years after having two major knee reconstructions.
Rovers Supporters Club are taking bookings for the game at Leigh Centurions on Sunday, May 18. The bus leaves the ground at 1pm. To book ring 01924-822426 or 01924-829763.
