DAVID Hobbs will continue to scour the transfer market, despite a double boost that has seen Carl Hughes return to the club and Nathan Batty make an injury-free comeback.
Versatile pack man Hughes, who asked to be released from his contract at the end of March, is back at the Chris Moyles Stadium in an attempt to reclaim a slot in boss Hobbs' starting side.
Former Dewsbury Rams full-back Batty made a long-awaited return to action in last Thursday's reserve team clash with Keighley.
It was his first game in almost two years, during which time he had a second knee reconstruction.
Said Hobbs: "Carl has decided to come back and pick his career up with us. Carl has got a role to play in the squad - now he's got to work hard and force his way back into the starting line-up.
"Nathan came through okay, which is good news. He's been out a long time and obviously his fitness was out-of-sorts but he got stuck in, and came out the other end.
"He'll look to have another run with them and when we know he can take the bumps and bruises, then we'll pick his fitness up.
"But we still need to be looking to strengthen. We've got to move the squad forward for next year as well.
"It's farcical that we don't know what we're playing for or towards - Im told that there are six permutations for what's going to happen with the National League next year - so we've got to keep pushing as a squad for whatever we can get."
Rovers visits Hilton Park on Sunday to face an under-achieving Leigh side sure to be out to impress new boss Neil Kelly, who has replaced Darren Shaw in the Centurions' hot-seat.
Hobbs is wary of the so-called 'new-coach syndrome' against a team sitting one place above Featherstone in the N|L1 ladder.
"There'll be a resurgence of energy from the players - some will be happy the old regime has gone, others won't be. I'm sure Neil will want to put his stamp on the side immediately.
"We've just got to make sure we don't get caught in the backlash and go about our business a little bit better than we have been doing.
"It can be quite intimidating at times over there but we go to Leigh with a chance of the points. If we're at our best, we'll come away with the win.
"It's a game that would jump us above them in the table. That's got to be our aim because we've got Widnes at home in our next league game - we need to make sure by halfway through he season that we're in a position to push for the play-offs."
Hobbs, whose side downed Leigh comfortably in a Northern Rail Cup match at Rovers in early April, believes ex-Super League halves Dennis Moran and Ian Watson carry Centurions' chief threat.
"I think both sides are pretty evenly matched. They have got a full-time element in there but we showed at our place that if we get in among them, we can disrupt them. We've got to restrict Moran and Watson - if we do that we can take control of the game."
Featherstone have to injury worries for Sunday's game, which is a 3pm kick-off.
The club's official supporters club are taking bookings for Sunday's trip to Leigh. The coach leaves the ground at 1pm. Ring 01924-822426/829763 to book.
Latest £500 winners in Featherstone's Treasure Chest lottery are: D. Guile, R. McNally, P. Cressey, A. Wigglesworth, K. Goodfellow; Junction meal voucher: M. Stirling.
