NEW boy Steve Snitch is raring to go and looking forward to showing Castleford Tigers fans what he can do.
The Hull-born forward has settled in quickly since his close season move from neighbours Wakefield Wildcats and is working towards making his likely debut in the Boxing Day friendly with Bradford Bulls at The Jungle.
After a week-and-a-half of pre-season training in his new surroundings, the 26-year-old declared himself happy to have made the short move across West Yorkshire and is keen to make a big impression.
He said: "I'm settling in well. All the boys are good and training's good. It's tough, as pre-season always is, but I'm enjoying it.
"This is a new challenge for me. I've signed for three years and obviously I want to make an impact. I want to prove myself worthy and do a good job for the boys and for the coaching staff.
"It was a package thing why I decided to come here. I could have stayed at Wakefield and there were a couple of other clubs interested, but I had a meeting with Terry (Matterson) and I liked where the club was going.
"We haven't sat down as a team and talked about specific goals as yet, but to say we are not even going to make the play-offs would be ridiculous. I'd be very surprised if we didn't.
"There were blokes here who I already knew and I just felt it was the right decision at the time for me to come to Castleford. I'm glad I made that decision and I'm enjoying it.
"I know Jacko, Wainy, Raz, Stu Jones and there's quite a few of the boys I've played with before. That was one of the reasons for coming here as I knew there was a bunch of good blokes. They've definitely helped me settle in.
"I'm hoping to make my debut in the Boxing Day game. The coach hasn't told me if I'm playing or not, but I just presume as one of the new boys that everybody will want to see me so I would be playing I would have thought.
"I'm looking forward to playing in front of the Castleford fans. I've played down The Jungle before and you can always hear the fans, usually abusing the away team!
"It's all part of the game and it's good for the boys to have a crowd behind them. In my experience the Cas fans along with the Hull KR fans are the rowdiest and it will be good to have them on my side for a change."
Snitch knows all about the rivalry between the Tigers and Wakefield, having seen it from the other side, and this will be one of the games he will be eagerly awaiting.
He said: "I'm Hull born and bred so I understand the Hull rivalry, but the Cas-Wakey rivalry is the same and I'm sure I'll be getting a bit of stick from their fans when I go back.
"But it's part of the game and it just makes you want to play better I suppose. It's always nice to get one over on your old club and that's what I'll be looking to do."
Snitch said that the coach had told him he would be used predominantly in his preferred role in the second row in the season ahead, but on occasion he may be asked to move up to the front row.
He added: "I'm probably better suited to playing in the back row, but I've been known to push up front and I don't mind doing that. So long as I'm on the pitch I'm happy."
The Tigers have handed part-time contracts to two former Huddersfield Giants juniors, 19-year-old stand-off Ed Barber, who spent the second half of last season on loan at the Jungle, and 20-year-old winger Richard Lopag.
Tigers back row forward Oliver Holmes, 17, has agreed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the Jungle until 2012.
