METHLEY gave their flickering title ambitions a lift with a crushing win at Premier Division rivals Ossett in Saturday's rain-affected Central Yorkshire League clash.
In only of only four CYL games to beat the weather, a seven-wicket win has lifted them to within ten points of leaders Wrenthorpe and nine behind Birstall, who both suffered frustrating wash-outs.
And with the top two going head to head this Saturda
y, and Wrenthorpe still to visit Little Church Lane on the closing day of the season, all is not yet lost for third-place Methley.
A six-wicket return from Chris Leaf set up Saturday's priceless six-point haul from a game reduced to 25 overs per side. The experienced quickie claimed 6-34 from 12 overs to send Ossett spiralling to 86 all out.
Vic Craven picked up 3-46 late on to complete the destruction, with only Stephen Brown, opener Jamie Sadler and Chris Smith making it into double figures up the order.
Ossett were 54-2 but lost their next seven wickets for the addition of only 20 runs.
Brown removed both Methley openers to finish with 2-29 from ten overs but it was a lost cause as Steve Bourne (21 not out) and Vic Craven (an unbeaten 22) held their nerve to see the side home with four overs in hand.
The weather wrecked any hope Townville had of keeping in touch with the top three. Their game with Birstall was abandoned, with each team forced to settle for two points.
And it was a similar story in Division Two where both Methley and Townville seconds saw their Division Two games fall foul of the heavy rain.
The Wetherby League was similarly hard hit, with Great Preston, Kippax and South Milford all left to kick their heels as rain wiped out the entire programme for the second time this season.
