METHLEY Royals are celebrating the selection of three of their players for the Yorkshire Under 19s squad for the forthcoming BARLA County Championship.
Hooker Reece Willshaw and back row men Kyle McDermott and Lee Starbuck were all named in manager Alan Boot's 30-man train-on party ahead of Sunday's match with Cumbria at Millom.
Boot and his coaches were due to trim the squad back to 22 players at
last night's (Wednesday's) training session.
The Royals are delighted for the trio, whether or not they made the final `cut'.
Methley spokesman Phil Hodgson said: "It's tremendous that they have been recognised, and their selection illustrates the progress we have made since being formed only last summer.
"They are following in the footsteps of prop Eddie North, who played for the British Police in the Test Series against New Zealand in the autumn, and second row Lee Denton, who is captain of the Great Britain Prison Services side. We are very proud of them all."
Methley, meanwhile, have slipped off the top of CMS Yorkshire League Division Four following the postponement of their fixture at Burley Lions because of a snowbound pitch, Swillington assuming pole position after winning at Walton. Methley, however, have two games in hand on Swillington.
Burley are due to visit the Royals on Saturday. The game, which will be staged at Smawthorne's Willowbridge ground, kicks off at 2.30pm.
