Castleford Tigers 44
Gateshead Thunder 18
GAME Gateshead twice took the lead before going down to their Super League hosts in an entertaining but error-riddled Boxing Day friendly.
New-signing Rangi Chase and teenage centre Joe Arundel each scored two tries for the Tigers, whose starting line-up contained ten of head coach Terry Matterson's (pictured) first-team squad.
Chase, fellow half-back Ryan McGoldrick, who was heavily involved for an influential 66-minute stint, and hooker Kirk Netherton all showed their class on the ball to give Gateshead a tough time.
But it was not all one-way traffic for the home side, who twice had to come from behind before taking charge.
See next week's Express for a full match report, pictures and reaction to Castleford's first pre-season hit-out.
