Tigers pay price for 'dumb' first half

Wakefield Wildcats 28
Castleford Tigers 16
CASTLEFORD paid a heavy price for failing to master the blizzard-like conditions at Belle Vue in this hard-fought and difficult derby.
With the galeforce wind and driving snow at their backs in the first period, Castleford somehow trailed 16-10 at the interval after a 'dumb' display that left head coach Terry Matterson rightly frustrated.
And that was too big a handicap to overcome for the Tigers, who despite playing some lovely stuff in the second half, were undone by old boy Danny Brough.
Half-back Brough, who left Cas at the end of last season, had a hand in all 12 of Wakefield's second-half points to earn the Wildcats two vital points - and leave his former side rooted to the bottom of the table.
Matterson's frustration was understandable. With Luke Dorn menacing down the hosts' right flank, full-back Ryan McGoldrick working overtime to make things happen and pack men Mark Leafa and Awen Guttenbeil sensational up front, Cas should probably have had more than just Dorn's converted try to show for their second-half efforts.
Peter Lupton and Dorn (two) got the Cas tries, with Craig Huby and Joe Westerman landing goals in a gutsy but ultimately fruitless effort.
