CASTLEFORD Tigers star Michael Shenton is excited to be on the verge of achieving a lifelong dream of playing in an Elland Road international final.
Shenton, who has so far been on the field for every minute of England's games in the competition, is hoping to keep his place at centre for the final showdown with the old enemy, having established a good understanding with Leeds winger Ryan Hall and Gareth Ellis down the left hand side.
He is urging England to get in the faces of the Australia players when the sides meet in the Gillette Four Nations Final at Elland Road on Saturday evening and believes that if England are strong and physical from the start they can upset the hot favourites.
On a personal level, the 23-year-old is excited by the prospect of matching up once more against the likes of Greg Inglis, Justin Hodges and Jarryd Hayne.
"I watch a bit of NRL and to see some of those players that are classed as superstars. It's been a real ambition of mine to play against the Aussies," said Shenton.
"Since a kid I've been coming to Elland Road to watch the final. I've been there watching Great Britain play Australia one day hoping to play in one of those games and it's coming around.
"We've got to start a lot better against the Aussies than we did in the first game. We've got to really build it up, be really intense, physical and get up in their faces like the Kiwis did. So the first part of the game will be massive for us.
"The Australians executed absolutely everything, every chance they got they took every opportunity. When you're slow starters, it's not the greatest thing when you're playing against Australia and that really cost us."
Shenton is hoping that a strong crowd, boosted by Tigers fans, will spur them on in the final.
He said: "It's massively important that the England fans turn out for us. We need all the support we can get."
Tickets for Saturday's Gillette Four Nations Final are still available from 0844 8561113 or www.rugbyleaguetickets.co.uk with prices starting from £20 for adults and £10 concessions.
