PONTEFRACT Collieries stepped up their NCE League Division One title challenge with yesterday's 4-1 victory over struggling neighbours Glasshoughton Welfare at Leeds Road.
It was Pontefract's sixth straight win and lifted them to second place, above AFC Emley on goal difference.
Collieries are just one point behind leaders Scarborough Athletic who have a match in hand.
Pontefract repeated last month's Wilkinson Sword Trophy victory at Glasshoughton after taking charge of yesterday's game with three first-half goals.
Adam White put them ahead after ten minutes and Craig Rouse doubled the lead 13 minutes later.
Michael Long's 37th minute strike gave Collieries a commanding 3-0 advantage.
Paul Nodder pulled one back for Glasshoughton after 87 minutes but Pontefract had the last word when Rouse completed the scoring with his second a minute later.
It was bottom side Glasshoughton's 14th league defeat this season. They are still looking for their first league win.
See Thursday's Pontefract and Castleford Express for all the latest news from the local soccer scene including a comprehensive round up of junior soccer.
