RYAN Hudson (pictured), Ryan McGoldrick and Brent Sherwin are leading contenders for the Castleford Tigers captaincy.
The Tigers skipper for 2009 will be announced after the club's 23-strong first-team squad return from a winter training camp in Devon. They set off tomorrow (Tuesday).
Tigers coach Terry Matterson said: "We've a few strong candidates, which is good because at the end of the day you need plenty of leaders. I think I've pretty well got it set. I'll finalise it on the camp.
Matterson will not be going down the two-captain route of 2008 when Kiwi veteran Awen Guttenbeil and Brent Sherwin shared the skipper's armband.
Castleford's next pre-season hit-out is at home to Huddersfield on Sunday, January 18.
Brett Ferres, Ryan Clayton and Chris Feather, who are all in rehab after close-season surgery, could be in contention and Sione Faumuina, who is receiving treatment on an ankle injury, could figure in the friendly against Wakefield the following Sunday (January 25).
