WELFARE upset the formbook by beating the Division One leaders with a committed display in Saturday's West Yorkshire League clash.
Quickly into their stride, the home team gave Park no room to work and it wasn't long before Matthew Stones and Craig Fradgley tested the visitors' keeper.
As Shaun Oldfield and Nelson Mendonca combed well up front, it seemed only a matter of time as Kells turned the screw. Mendonca hit the woodwork before goal-machine John Wilson netted his seventh goal in seven games on the stroke of half-time. Wilson struck from the edge of the box after the table-toppers failed to clear their lines.
Park were charged up for the second half but with Luke Beecher (on for brother Ben), Routledge, Stones and Fradley dominating the midfield battle, keeper Adam Tasker had only a couple of routine stops to deal with.
A Stones free-kick forced a great save and Park's cause was not helped when they had a player sent off for a cynical challenge 12 minutes from time.
Mendonca had a great chance to finish their game but his shot just cleared the bar. Kellingley, who welcomed back midfielder Andy Mills after a three-week injury lay-off, will need to be at their best for Saturday's visit of derby foe Pontefract Social.
Featherstone Colliery ...1
Hartshead Senior ...1
Featherstone overcame a sluggish start to take a share of the spoils.
Hartshead had already gone within inches of taking the lead, with only a few half-chances from Colliery in reply, before taking the lead on the half-hour. The visitors continued to push but failed to breach the defence of James Cave, James Bradley, Chris Appleyard and Rich Bradley before the break.
Colliery emerged a different team in the second half. Simon Davis and Luke Dyas forced fine saves and Davis was brought down on the edge of the box after going through, with the culprit fortunate to escape with only a yellow card.
The pressure increased. Appleyard headed home from a free-kick, only to see his effort ruled out for a push, but midway through the half good work from Luke Dyas and Jon Davis set up Simon Davis to level. Si Davis had two great chances to win it late on but the visitors' keeper came to his side's rescue.
Appleyard was the star-man, pushed close by Si Davis, Bradley and Andy Gray.
