Allerton soar to second place by crushing Darton

Allerton Bywater stepped up their promotion bid in Torbeck Pontefract League Division Three with Saturday’s eight-wicket win at Darton.

It lifted Allerton to second place, above local rivals Glasshoughton, who slipped to a second successive league defeat at Hensall.

Allerton’s Kris Thicket claimed 5-34 as Darton were routed for 112.

In reply, Matt Longdon hit an unbeaten half century as Allerton coasted to an eight-wicket win.

Chasing Hensall’s 262-9 that featured an undefeated 122 by Chris Thornton, Glasshoughton were bowled out for 142 by Adam Lund (4-31).

Hundhill Hall lost by 138 runs to title favourites West Bretton, who increased their lead to 13 points.

David Hoyle (66) and Dan Wood (61) led West Bretton to 206, despite the efforts of Hundhill’s Keith Breckon (3-10), Nathan Hurcomb (3-29) and Simon Jewitt (2-11).

Fred Gunthorpe and Reece Johnson were the only batsmen who reached double figures as Hundhill were toppled for 68 in reply.

Opener Gunthorpe batted 82 minutes for his 28 and Johnson struck 24.

Streethouse 2nds ended a three-match losing run with an eight-wicket win at Brodsworth.

Craig Tennant’s unbeaten 106 guided Streethouse to victory after Conor Glavin (3-47) and Steve Honeyman senior (2-2) had limited Brodsworth to 178-7.

Division One leaders Ackworth won by six wickets at Featherstone who were bowled out for 173.

Ackworth are seven points clear of closest rivals Streethouse who beat Monk Bretton by six wickets.

Connor Honeyman, who hit an unbeaten 101 the previous week, missed out on a second successive century when he was out leg before on 99 as Streethouse overhauled Monk Bretton’s 235-6.

Skipper Mark Robinson (59) and Gary Rhodes (34no) were Streethouse’s other main scorers.

Fairburn revived their bid to retain the championship by beating Stainborough.

Mark Abdy (58no) and Craig Piggott (55) guided Fairburn to a six-wicket success that left them only eight points adrift of Ackworth in a wide-open title race.

Simon Ward (73) and Steve Roberts (63no) led Old Sharlston to 254-5 - the top-flight’s highest total of the day - against Fishlake who managed only 201-9 in reply.

In Division Two, Whitley Bridge lost by 70 runs at leaders Sandal whose total of 253-7 featured a superb 131 by Matt Westwood.

Adrian Parker (52) top-scored in Whitley’s reply of 183-8.

Second-placed Nostell won by five wickets at Knottingley thanks to Tim Oram (42no) and James Rowett (4-28).

Knottingley were routed for 106, despite Steve Mowbray’s battling 31.

Ferrybridge won a high-scoring Division Four match against Ackworth 2nds.

Richard Lumb (90no), Adam Jones (55) and Jack Hart (41) led Ferrybridge to 259-6.

Ackworth’s most successful bowlers were Mick Cooper (3-55) and Steve Longfield (2-56).

Ackworth’s reply fell 54 runs short when they were bowled out for 205, despite excellent batting by Kevin Booth (76), Longfield (48) and Chris O’Grady (48).

Ferrybridge’s Paul Lumb bagged 3-49 and Jack Hart and Sam Angell each took two wickets.

In Division Five, Fairburn 2nds crashed to a heavy defeat at Stainborough 2nds.

Dominic Fell (6-12) skittled Fairburn for 41, replying to Stainborough’s 205 that included a century by Ryan Howarth.

Chasing Notton’s 142-7, Thorpe Audlin were dismissed for 133.

In Division Six, Hundhill 2nds lost by 66 runs at Fenwick. Nev Malyan (3-7), Andy Clowes (3-43) and Jack Gascoigne (3-45) kept Fenwick at 186 but Hundhill managed only 120-6 in reply.

Paul Wilkinson (29), Jed Wilkinson (21no), Sam Eastwood (21) and Gascoigne (19) top-scored for the East Hardwick side.

Bottom team Allerton Bywater 2nds defeated Darton 2nds by 28 runs but Whitley Bridge 2nds lost by two wickets to Sandal 2nds..

Glasshoughton 2nds beat struggling Hensall 2nds by 106 runs in Division Seven.

A sparkling 89 from Noor Sahaq saw Glasshoughton reach195-9. He shared a second-wicket stand of 72 with Tony Gale (29).

In reply, Hensall were dismissed for 85, with promising 14-year-old Jake Melley bowling superbly to snap up 4-16. Sahaq took two wickets to complete an excellent afternoon’s work.

Ferrybridge 2nds slipped to a narrow defeat against promotion-chasers Hemsworth 2nds.

Holly Westmoreland (3-17), Atif Basharat (3-32), Dinesh Nagi (2-23) and Paul Snowdon (2-23) bowled out Hemsworth for 163 but Ferrybridge’s reply fell just short.

Mark Hinchcliffe’s 48 and Robert Brain’s 29 were in vain as Ferrybridge were dismissed for 148.

Thorpe Audlin 2nds beat Brodsworth 2nds by one wicket but Knottingley 2nds slipped to a 52 run defeat against West Bretton 2nds.

Frank Causier (4-18) limited West Bretton to 176 but Knottingley were all out for 124 in reply.
