Castleford came off second best in a rain affected reduced overs Yorkshire Premier League North game against Acomb.

The 32 overs-a-side match saw Acomb batting first and posting a 176-7 score.

Castleford skipper David Wainwright did his best to restrict the visitors with 4-46 while there was one wicket each for Eddie Morrison, Mohammad Waqas and Connor Hyde.

In reply, Castleford were quickly reduced to 16-3 despite 13 from Connor Hyde.

Wainwright and Liam Hyde began a rescue job before the latter fell for 23. Cas fell behind the asking rate and ended on 105-8 with Wainwright still there on 48 not out.

Castleford seconds continued their improved form as they enjoyed a winning draw against Goole Town II in the York District League’s Ebor Division Three.

Going in first in a reduced 33-over contest, Cas made 141-8 as openers Amol Vani (31) and Ardash Vani (27) put on 64 for the first wicket and Nathan Smith contributed 30.

Goole Town batted out their overs, but were hanging on at the end on 113-9 as Ardash Vani took 6-24.

Castleford under 17s were in good form as they beat Ackworth under 17s by eight wickets in the Opella Cup.

After bowling their opponents out for 84, Luke Edwards led the run chase with an unbeaten 51, receiving support from David Tomlinson (11) and Byron Grant (16 not out) as the target was reached with five overs to spare. Best bowler for Cas was Eddy Cole, with 3-5, while Oran White and William Day took two wickets each.

The under 17s were also victorious in their Pontefract Junior League game against Newton Hill as they made 166-3 in their 20 overs then kept their opponents to 83-6. Cole (51no) and George Swaby (32no) top scored.
