Despite a superb century from David Wainwright, Castleford suffered a heavy nine-wicket defeat when they hosted Doncaster Town in the Yorkshire ECB Premier League.

Going in first, Cas looked to have posted a challenging target as they made 214.

The innings was based round Wainwright’s 106-ball knock in which he made 101, including nine fours. He figured in a 78-run third wicket stand with James Sykes (44) and another good partnership of 53 for the sixth wicket with Andrew Chadwick (20).

However, Doncaster’s batsmen also found conditions to their liking as they lost only one wicket in reaching their target in the 50th over.

Gareth Cox led the way with 104 and combined with Rhys Mann (94 not out) in a 211-run opening stand.

Castleford seconds also suffered a seven-wicket defeat against Pocklington II in the York Senior League’s Division Three North.

A poor batting display saw Castleford all out for only 75 with Luke Edwards (30) top scoring.
