Castleford suffer batting collapse in final game

Castleford CC ended their season in the Yorkshire ECB Premier League in disappointing fashion with defeat to Yorkshire Academy in a low scoring contest.

Hopes of victory must have been high when they bowled the Academy out for 117 after the Yorkshire team had elected to bat first.

Only Ben Lewis Ainsley, with 42, was able to make any impact against a Castleford attack that took command after their visitors had reached 46-1

Jarran Cook took 3-34, David Wainwright claimed 3-23 and there were two wickets each for skipper Alex Romaniw and Jack Shutt.

But Castleford batsmen also found it a struggle after they had reached 43-1.

Although Charles Finan made 33, they lost their last nine wickets for 51 runs to be all out for 94 in 32.1 overs. James Logan did most of the damage, taking 7-15 in 12 overs with Academy captain Matthew Waite claiming 2-20.

Castleford seconds lost by eight wickets to Stillington i n the York Senior League’s Division Three North.

In a rain reduced contest, Cas made 128-1 with Ardash Vani hitting 58 not out and Storey 49. But Stillington replied with 130-2.
