CASTLEFORD Tigers have confirmed the signings of former New Zealand international centre Jake Webster and Hull FC scrum-half Jamie Ellis for next season.

Capped eight times by the Kiwis, Webster, 28, has signed a three-year contract and will bring a wealth of experience to Castleford.

He has scored 31 tries in 87 Super League appearances for Hull KR since arriving in East Yorkshire for the 2008 season.

He has also played in the Australian NRL competition with Melbourne Storm and Gold Coast Titans.

Webster will be joined at Cas next year by 23-year-old Ellis, who has signed a two-year contract to join up again with Ian Millward, who coached him at Leigh Centurions.

After taking the step up to Super League level he has so far made 10 appearances for Hull. A former St Helens junior, it was with Leigh, under Millward that he won the coveted Championship Player of the Year award. He also won the man of the match award and scored a brace of tries in the Centurions’ Northern Rail Cup final success last year.

On the new signings, Millward said: “I was looking for a specialist centre with experience and Jake ticks both boxes.

“He is a damaging runner and can create fear in opposition attack with his defensive qualities.

“I believe the paring of him and Michael Shenton; two specialist International centres will be up there amongst the best in Super League next year.

“Jamie is a player I think has an abundance of talent, he has a wonderful kicking game and is a player who has played regular Super League with Hull this year.

“He reminds me very much of an Australian style half-back who likes to take the ball to the line.”
