Castleford Tigers head coach Daryl Powell has announced his side’s squad numbers for the 2014 Super League season.

With nine new additions to the playing ranks there are several changes from last year’s numbers and one of two surprises on who has been handed the 1 to 13 shirts.

Michael Shenton, given the number three shirt, will captain the side again while young loose-forward or stand-off Jordan Howden has been handed a first team squad number for the first time.

Powell said: “I am absolutely delighted with the squad we have in place for this year.

“There is a real feel of depth, and quality in every position.

“There will be some massive challenges for us this season and I am looking for the depth of our squad to drive individual and collective performances to make sure we achieve our goals in 2014.”

The squad emulates the clubs stats of recent years, containing almost 50 per cent of players that are a result of the club’s impressive youth development system, with 14 players coming through the Tigers’ youth structure.

Cas kick-off their 2014 Super League season when they travel to Odsal Stadium to take on the Bradford Bulls on Sunday, February 16.
