Ellis shines on debut as Cas thrash Giants

editorial image

A DREAM debut from Jamie Ellis helped Castleford Tigers put recent disappointing results behind them in style as they ran in eight tries in a surprise demolition of Huddersfield Giants at the Probiz Coliseum.

Scrum-half Ellis, signed in the week from Hull, scored 24 points as he kicked 10 goals from 11 attempts and celebrated being awarded the club man of the match by going over for a try late on in a 52-6 thrashing of top eight side Huddersfield.

With another man of the match contender Richard Owen crossing for two tries and a first-ever in the senior side for James Clare plus touchdowns by Jordan Thompson, Nick Youngquest, Josh Griffin and Adam Milner, Cas came up with their biggest winning margin under Ian Millward.

They were 6-4 down after 11 minutes, but were deservedly 22-6 up at half-time and held their nerve in defence when the Giants threw the ball about in a bid to change the game round.
