Tigers boss: I don't want to talk about Rangi Chase

CASTLEFORD Tigers refused to explain Rangi Chase's absence from the side that lost 40-22 at Leeds Rhinos on Sunday.

The England stand-off was named in coach Ian Millward's initial 19-man squad but was missing from the team sheet amid rumours that he had been dropped for disciplinary reasons.

Chase continues to be the subject of transfer speculation, with Huddersfield Giants the latest club to be linked with a big-money move for him.

At the post-match media conference at Headingley, Millward (pictured) said: "I don't want to talk about Rangi Chase. I'm not here to talk about people who aren't here.

"I'm here to talk about today's game and the 17 players that played here. They're the people who represented the club today."

Castleford were trailing 40-6 when they had full-back Richard Owen sin-binned on the hour for punching but a late rally brought two tries for centre Brett Ferres and one for prop Craig Huby as they made the scoreline respectable.

"I thought we were a bit passive on attack in the first half," added Millward.

We lacked a bit of confidence but at 16-6 I was really positive.

"I thought I could correct a few things on attack but the try on half-time was really costly for us.

"I thought we would finish strong and that was the case. The guys didn't give up and that gives me great heart going into the next game."
