Wakefield Wildcats back RFL investigation into crowd disturbances during Castleford Tigers derby

WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats have backed the RFL’s plans to launch a formal investigation into off-field disturbances that took place during the Wildcats’ 34-16 defeat to Castleford Tigers at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium last Friday.

A statement released by the RFL said: “The investigation will centre on the incidents involving supporters of both clubs both inside and outside the stadium and the way in which the incidents were managed.

“The RFL will be making no further comment until the conclusion of the investigation.”

Reacting to the statement, Wildcats chief executive, James Elston, reiterated the club’s zero tolerance policy to unacceptable behaviour, saying: “We are in full support of the RFL investigation.

“We will not hesitate to take the strongest action possible in banning any individuals found to be guilty from the investigation.

“Rugby league as a sport and Wakefield Wildcats as a club prides itself on being family friendly and this is something we will strive to maintain by ensuring the people involved in Friday night’s incidents are banned from attending fixtures in the future.

“Our initial investigations have already identified a number of people and we will be taking action against them.

“We’d like to thank people who have come forward with information and once again thank the supporters of both clubs who in the vast majority, created a fantastic atmosphere on Good Friday.”
