Fairburn’s junior cricketers are aiming to keep up the good work this season.
Fairburn are well known as a family-orientated club. They have fathers, sons and brothers playing for their two senior teams in the Pontefract League.
The juniors began life last season with a small bunch of kids under the guidance of Ian Raynor, Paul Clarke and Chris Nielson.
Fairburn joined the Pontefract and District Junior League last year with the sole intention of getting as many children playing cricket as possible.
With a lot of effort from the coaches and players, Fairburn astonished themselves by finishing second in their division.
This year Fairburn have entered teams in the under 11 and under 13 leagues.
Club officials are looking to the future and see the junior set up as a springboard to more success for the club at senior level.
Anyone wanting to play cricket at under 11 or under 13 levels will be made welcome at the club.
The senior first team are the reigning Pontefract League Division One champions and in their first game this season the average age of the side was only 24 years old which shows the faith they have in youth.
