Featherstone Rovers survived a second-half fightback from Leigh Centurions to beat them 40-26 in the opening Championship play-off clash at Big Fellas Stadium on Sunday.

It earned Rovers a home qualifying semi-final in two weeks’ time when they could face Leigh yet again.

Featherstone looked set for a comfortable win when they led 28-4 early in the second-half but the Centurions gave them a scare by cutting the gap to eight points before Andy Bostock scored five minutes from time to seal victory.

Rovers wingers Will Sharp and Tommy Saxton each scored two tries and Matty Dale and Greg Worthington also crossed, with Liam Finn kicking six goals.

Ryan Brierley and Michael Ostick each scored two tries for Leigh and Gregg McNally grabbed their final touchdown.
