Rovers aim to stay on course to finish top

FEATHERSTONE Rovers are aiming to quickly bounce back from Sunday’s 21-12 defeat against Halifax in the Northern Rail Cup final.

Rovers have four league games remaining, starting with tonight’s trip to York City Knights.

Featherstone have a two-point lead in the Championship and are handily placed to lift the League Leaders’ Shield for the the third year running.

Tonight’s opponents York are second bottom in the table but they battled well in a 34-14 defeat at Featherstone earlier this season when they were 14-10 ahead with just 12 minutes left.

“First and foremost we’ve got to get ourselves back on track and put in a good performance against York on Friday night,” said Rovers coach Daryl Powell (pictured).

“It’s probably best that it is a quick turnround and we get straight into playing again.

“We have four league games left and we are in a good position and it is in our hands. We’ve got to make it count.

“We’ll take it one game at a time and not get too far ahead of ourselves. There’s still a great opportunity for us to be successful this season.

“I think Sunday’s defeat will galvanise us. When you lose a big game like that it’s always disappointing but it’s about getting yourself back up as quick as you can and coming out with a strong performance.

“It is a tight pitch at York and they will challenge us. They are not having the best of times but they will see us as a little bit vulnerable and we’ve got to show pretty much straight away are we are not.”
