Ferrybridge Progressive progressed to the last 16 of the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup with victory in a seven-goal thriller against Yeadon Veterans.
After opening up a 4-1 lead Ferry had to withstand a big fight back by their opponents in Sunday’s third round tie before finally sealing their victory.
A tough task now awaits Progressive in the fourth round as they are at home to Chapeltown Fforde Grene, of the Leeds Combination League, who are traditionally one of the best Sunday sides in Leeds. The mouth watering tie is due to take place on Sunday, January 4 (kick-off 11am).
Against Yeadon, Ferry were given a good start when Jimmy Earley fired them ahead.
Yeadon levelled, but Ferry took charge when Earley netted again then Danny Middleton was on target and Jamie Bird put away a penalty after Earley was brought down to make it 4-1 at half-time.
They were unable to add to their tally in the second half and were given a fright when their opponents pulled two goals back, but held on for a big victory.
Fryston AFC Sunday could not follow them through as they lost their third round tie 4-2 at home to Belle Isle WMC.
