Former manager Simon Houghton is returning to Pontefract Collieries to join Nick Handley’s management team.
Since the departure of Duncan Bray and Russ Eagle the Colls manager has been looking to strengthen his team and bring in the skills and experience needed to succeed in the NCE Premier League.
Craig Rouse agreed to return and joined the management team last month and now Houghton, who was a previous manager at the club and as assistant manager helped Glasshoughton Welfare to promotion, has been added to the team.
Handley said: “I was Simon’s captain at Ponte and I have seen how well he performs as a leader.
“I have a great deal of respect for him and since we were last together at Ponte he has had loads of experience in the NCE Premier League with Glasshoughton, Athersley and Shaw Lane.
“He is an excellent addition to the team at the club and I am really looking forward to working with him again.”
Ponte have also appointed a new club captain and club vice-captain following the decision of centre-back Nigel Danby to leave.
Colls have asked Aaron Moxam to take on the role of captain and his strike partner, Liam Radford, to take the position of vice-captain. The pair have a wealth of experience playing in the NCE League and manager Handley believes the time is right to ask them to take the helm on the field.
He said: “Aaron and Liam have the leadership skills that we need to help the team produce consistent performances on the field and to consolidate our position in the Premier League.”
Former captain Danby has left Colls and the club would like to place on record their thanks for his massive contribution over the last few seasons when he has been a stalwart at centre-back and made a big contribution during the promotion campaign last season.
